This is a black and white poster that shows a photograph of Huey P. Newton sitting in a wicker fan-back or peacock chair. Newton is wearing a light button-down shirt and dark pants, shoes, leather jacket, and beret. He faces forward holding a spear and a gun in his hands and he is flanked by shields that lean against a light colored wall behind him. The chair is set on top of what appears to be a zebra hide.
Per donor: "The poster was made from a photo taken by Eldridge Cleaver in 1967 at attorney Beverly Axelrod's house. Eldridge made the original posters and then gave them to the Black Panther Party to sell. It quickly became the leading poster of its time and was sold throughout the world. The poster is a symbol of man's evolution in self-defense, from the spear and shield to the shotgun
