Description
SCARCE ITEM!!This is USGS Professional Paper 248-G,
Mica Deposits of the Southeastern Piedmont, Part 11, Alabama District
. Published in 1953, there can't be many of these around! This is Volume 7 of a seven-volume series. I am currently selling all six volumes of this set in my store.
This seventh volume contains Part 11. It consists of the 62-page book and
ALL EIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL MAPS
, all in excellent condition! Who knew that apatite, cassiterite, beryl, tourmaline and other minerals could be found in Alabama? Find out where! One of the mines is really a kyanite location where “numerous boulders of coarsely bladed blue kyanite” have been found! About another mine it says “Crystals of black tourmaline, small pink garnets, and granular masses of bright blue apatite are abundant”. One of the maps is an index map showing the locations of 112 mines by name! Other maps are detailed maps of specific mine workings. Some tin mine locations are shown on at least one map! Among the mines discussed are these:

AND OTHERS! In addition, a reference is provided for a further 48 mines that are discussed in a Bureau of Mines publication on beryl and mica in the same area. Since the locations were covered by the Bureau’s publication, they were not revisited by this work, but the reference alone could be worth tracking down. All in all this is an exceptionally rare and desirable publication.
