    Description

    SCARCE ITEM & POPULAR!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 154-H,
A Revision of the Flora of the Latah Formation.
Published in 1929, there can't be many of these around. This 40-page book details comes with 16 plates of photos of leaves of many plant species. The Latah formation consists of lake bed sediments that preserved abundant leave fossils. At the time this was written, some collections and publications had been produced, but later collections added new species and helped clarify others with better examples. This report was written to update the literature on this important fossil-bearing formation.
The plates shows dozens of examples of the fossil leaves preserved by these rocks. The formation is late Miocene in age, so the rocks are not sturdy and took considerable effort to excavate and preserve for study. Nonetheless, if you were interested, you could probably go find some of your own since the formation occurs in a number of locations in the Washington-Idaho area. I'm impressed with the level of detail and the beauty of the fossils shown here, and if I lived nearby I would have a look for them. The text also gives nice background on the formation and even the history of its study.
This is a scarce old report, nearly a hundred years old. You'll seldom see this on Ebay or anywhere else.
As always, please read the condition notes.
