USGS FOSSIL PLANTS of NORTH CAROLINA Vintage 1926 Pleistocene Leaves RARE! 1926

  • Refund will be given as: Money Back
  • Condition: These were issued without covers, with the purpose of being bound into volumes, as was the custom at the time. So the title page is the "cover". It has a few nicks and abrasions along the hinge line, and some tanning around the edges and some light pencil marks. The text and plates are separate folded sheafs, that are stapled together originally. The spine of the text portion has minor splitting. The cover is detached. The text is unmarked, and the plates are printed on glossy paper and also unmarked. There is some smudging to the back and minor wrinkling of the last page/back "cover", plus a nick along the edge. Overall a fair example of this rare old report. These ephemeral reports didn't survive well, so not bad actually.

    Description

    ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 140-C,
    Pleistocene Plants from North Carolina
. Published in 1926, this vintage 14-page report includes
    thirteen plates
of illustrations useful in identifying the many varieties of plant fossils present in the Pleistocene formations of the coastal plain.
The fossils are mostly leaves of deciduous tress, but there are seeds like acorns, plant stems, wood, and other plant parts as well. Many are well preserved, showing fine veining in the leaves and details of the seed surfaces and the like.
This would be a great help to any fossil collectors in the region that want to some of their own plant fossils. The text describes several specific locations where the illustrated fossils were collected. This is absolutely made for the fossil collector and could lead you right to the goods! It is a scarce, old item that is hard to find. Rare to find it intact and with all the plates.
